Cement colour testing

July 13, 2017

Lets be honest here - grey is boring. Therefore grey cement is boring. Lets jazz that cement masterpiece up by testing different colours in the cement mixing processes.

We ran tests on a number of different colouring pigments mixed with your everyday cement (we used Dingo Fast Set Mortar from Bunnings).

We have Avista black and white oxide (from Bunnings), Liquitex acrylic ink (from Art Shed), Langridge artist pigments (from Artshed), Global acrylic paint (from Riot), and Ironlak alcohol based ink (from Ironlak).

We created a mixing timelapse:

After leaving the cement to dry for 24 hours we popped the blocks out of the ice tray. We noticed the acrylic paint and alcohol based ink blocks were really crumbly and soft. The oxide and artist pigments were by far the nicest and strongest blocks.

Now you have the know-how, get creating! We have a few cement projects planned for the blog over the next few weeks so be sure to pop back and get your DIY-on. Show us your cement colouring by using #xoxkit
